Project Host
There’s no better way for an industrial distribution student to understand what the electronic distribution industry is all about than by attending an industry event. Started in 1986 as part of the National Electronic Distributors Association (NEDA), the Education Foundation has sponsored Project Host, a program that provides industrial distribution students and faculty the opportunity to attend an industry event. The program takes place twice a year - during the Electronic Distribution Show (EDS) and the Executive Conference in Chicago.
EDS is held each May in Las Vegas, NV. and is the industry’s major business meeting. More than a traditional trade show, it is dominated by "business to business" meetings between manufacturers and their authorized distributors. Student guests of the Foundation are matched with volunteer executives who "host" students and allow them to attend these important business meetings. Students see the theories they have learned in class come to life through the actual practice of the distributor/manufacturer relationship. Students have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to pick the brains of experienced industry professionals and see real-world business planning and marketing sessions.
Faculty and Student registration must be completed in advance. Click here for information on 2011 Project Host at EDS.
The Executive Conference, the premier educational event for the industry, is held each fall in Chicago. The 2011 Executive Conference is October 23-25 at the InterContinental Chicago O'Hare Hotel. Senior management teams of leading electronics companies gather together to hear industry experts review the current issues affecting the industry and forecast the future direction and growth of electronic distribution. Invited faculty meet with industry leaders during which the professionals speak openly about the industry and its need for the future. Faculty have the opportunity to ask questions of professionals who know the needs of future industry hires.
At both events, Project Host participants receive an orientation presentation on the industry. They are also able to attend educational programming and NEDA-sponsored events, allowing them to network with industry leaders and peers.
The NEDA Education Foundation underwrites the student and faculty housing at both conferences and also offers a travel stipend.
